Join Cubby, the WVPT Bear, At the TV Station
WVPT proudly announces the creation of the first children’s book featuring Cubby, the WVPT Bear, titled Join Cubby, the WVPT Bear, At the TV Station.
WVPT Education Specialists Bly Brown and Kathryn Staton created the book, which is intended for children ages 4 to 8.
“We’ve been talking for years about putting a book together,” said Brown, who authored the book. “Since children love Cubby so much, we thought it would be great to provide a book that kids could look through whenever they wanted.”
The book follows Cubby as he takes readers on an adventure through the WVPT station in Harrisonburg. Cubby explores the studio and control rooms and learns about the different careers that are needed in television production. The book includes a basic glossary of related vocabulary terms for children to use as a reference with the help of a parent or educator.
“There is a large push for career exploration even as early as elementary school,” Brown said, “and this book gives a little bit of insight into the careers that are available at a TV station.”
RR Donnelley donated seed money for the first book, which Brown said funded the printing of over 200 copies. She says there are plans for future adventures with Cubby in which readers may follow the WVPT Bear to other areas of interest in the WVPT service area. The cost of the book is $10 and includes free shipping. All proceeds will go to future editions and the promotion of literacy throughout the WVPT viewing area.
