DVD, THE GRATEFUL DEAD: DEAD AHEAD
The Grateful Dead were one of the most acclaimed live acts of their itme, and they never faltered. The luminous performances on Dead Ahead, filmed on October 30-31, 1980, captured the Dead at a moment of transformation, when the band took a reckoning of their history through the lens of a marathon run of shows. Recorded in one of the wonders of the modern world – Radio City Music Hall – the performances on Dead Ahead marked the culmination of a month-long musical odyssey in San Francisco and New York City during which the band stretched the boundaries of over 100 songs, from the newly written “Lost Sailor” to jug-band tunes they played in coffeehouses like “Monkey and the Engineer.”

DVD Track List

THE GRATEFUL DEAD: RECKONING
Reckoning is a live double album originally released in 1981 consisting of acoustic material recorded live in September and October 1980 at their Warfield (San Francisco) and Radio City Music Hall (New York) shows.

Showcasing the Dead's mastery of traditional folk, country and bluegrass songbooks, the album was remastered and expanded in 2004 with a second CD that featured alternate live and studio rehearsal versions of some of the songs, as well as songs that were not on the original release such as "Sage & Spirit," "Tom Dooley" and "El Paso."

Originally released in the days of vinyl, the Grateful Dead intended for the material on Reckoning and another recording, Dead Set, to be one vinyl double album featuring the acoustic material on one LP and the electric material on the other. Due to the length of the extended improvisational jams in the electric material, the concept was expanded to two distinct albums – one acoustic, Reckoning, and the other electric, Dead Set.

THE GRATEFUL DEAD: DEAD SET
The electric companion to the acoustic album Reckoning, Dead Set is a live double album originally released in August of 1981 consisting of material from their electric sets recorded live in September and October of 1980 at their Warfield (San Francisco) and Radio City Music Hall (New York) shows.

Showcasing the Dead's trademark improvisational jams, the album was remastered and expanded in 2004 with a second CD that featured alternate live and studio rehearsal versions of some of the songs, as well as songs that were not on the original release such as "Let It Grow," "Jack Straw," “Shakedown Street” and "Not Fade Away."
