CD/DVD, ALBERT KING WITH STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN "IN SESSION" The legendary live jam session by two of the greatest musicians ever to have played the blues on electric guitar – Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Originally recorded for the Canadian television program In Session in 1983, this was a historic meeting of two artists that has proven to be a very special moment of time in the careers of each musician. Captured here on CD and DVD, the DVD includes never-before-released songs, as well as new liner notes written by the famed musicologist Samuel Charters!
This CD/DVD is notable as this is the only known recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan and his idol Albert King together. In Session was one of a series of live television sessions recording the performances of various artists. Another interesting aspect of the CD/DVD is that they include short audio segments of the artists’ banter between songs.
Initially King wasn't going to do the show because he didn't know who Stevie Ray Vaughan was, and he didn't realize that Stevie Ray Vaughan was actually “little Stevie,” the “skinny kid” who he let sit in when King played in Texas. On one of the conversation tracks, King actually talks about this noting that, when he realized who Stevie Ray Vaughan was, he agreed to play. The album's material is mostly King's concert line up, with one Stevie Ray Vaughan cut, Pride and Joy. While King is driving the session, he purposefully features Vaughan on a number of the songs.
