PBS Kids Personality to Make Appearance at WVPT Kids’ Book Festival

Miss Rosa will attend fourth annual event in Charlottesville

Harrisonburg, Va., August 13, 2009 – Jennifer Peña, host of PBS KIDS preschool programming, will be appearing at the fourth annual WVPT Kids’ Book Festival in Charlottesville, VA. The event, sponsored by Wachovia, is being held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the University of Virginia’s University Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with activities, food, and a free book for each child up to age 10.

The WVPT Kids’ Book Festival is a free family event designed to promote literacy to children throughout the community. Each year thousands of books are given out to children as a way to promote the joy of reading.

Jennifer Peña is a Florida certified schoolteacher, fluent in Spanish, who began her career as an actress at the age of nine. She received the PBS KIDS role of Miss Rosa over thousands of others who auditioned. As Miss Rosa on PBS KIDS morning programming, Peña helps children understand diversity and cultural experiences by teaching subject matter in Spanish. Each day, Miss Rosa introduces Spanish words and phrases in segments between popular PBS KIDS shows, such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, SUPER WHY!, and Dragon Tales. PBS KIDS Raising Readers featured Peña in a bilingual DVD last year, sent to ten cities across the United States in affiliation with PBS stations serving their communities. In both the DVD and hosting PBS KIDS morning programming, Peña as Miss Rosa encourages viewers to enjoy reading through games and other intriguing activities.

Peña’s first acting role was in the Touchstone film, Ernest Saves Christmas. Other acting roles Peña has had include a film appearance in Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector; television appearances on One Tree Hill and several Nickelodeon programs; several national television commercial spots; and hosting Shamu TV. In addition to her role of Miss Rosa on PBS KIDS, Peña teaches acting lessons in private classes and workshops to children and teens.
