Virginia Farming

Welcome to Virginia Farming!

Historically, Virginia has always stood at the forefront of the American agriculture industry. The agriculture industry alone has an economic impact of $52 billion annually and provides more than 311,000 jobs throughout the Commonwealth. According to a recent UVA study, agriculture and forestry, have a combined economic impact of more than $70 billion dollars, making those two industries the largest in the state, even larger than the government and military. That's why WVPT’s Virginia Farming so vital to its viewers. In today’s ever changing economic landscape, farmers need to stay up to date on the latest ag trends, innovations and information. Consumers need to know where their food comes from and what it takes to get it to their tables.

Hosted by WVPT’s Amy Roscher, Virginia Farming is the Commonwealth’s only locally produced, weekly televised farming news series. Topics include: poultry, beef, dairy, crops, wine, seafood, timber, aquaculture, and farm safety as well as a myriad of other topics that affect farmers and consumers on a daily basis. Virginia Farming has been recognized with four top journalism awards from the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation (VFBF) for outstanding farm news communication, as well as a myriad of accolades and recognitions from industry experts.

About Your Host, Amy Roscher

Amy was born and raised on a 170-acre dairy farm in Rockingham County, VA, milking 100 head of registered Holsteins. “Growing up on a farm instills a work ethic like no other. It doesn’t matter the time of day or night, when the cows get out, you get them in. When a cow is birthing, you’re there to help.” After she received a degree in journalism from Radford University, Amy focused her career on broadcasting, and since 1994, has been involved in some facet of television or video production. For four years Amy served as the Director for Virginia Farming. She's now in front of the camera to take over for veteran host, Jeff Ishee. “Being given the opportunity to produce and host Virginia Farming is an honor. My main focus is to continue to be of service to farmers and agribusinesses, to provide them with the news and insights they have come to rely on over the last 10 or more years. I also view it as a chance to educate consumers so they can fully understand where their food comes from, and what it takes to get it to their tables."
