VIRGINIA REPORTS "The Latino Underground"
(Oct. 2007)
Running Time: 60 minutes

“Unfortunately, in my country, we don’t have opportunities to make a living and I want the best for my children.”
“I had to cross the border illegally…there was no other way.”

Illegal immigration to the United States has skyrocketed in recent years.

Why do immigrants cross the border illegally? What effect does immigration have nationally and locally? VIRGINIA REPORTS “The Latino Underground” examines this emotional issue.

Those interviewed include several undocumented immigrants; a cultural anthropologist; an investigative journalist; an immigration lawyer; president of the Virginia Poultry Federation; representatives from the education, healthcare, political and law enforcement fields; and spokespersons from Americans for Immigration Control and the Virginia Chapter of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.
